Pssst...Is this Act Two?

Well, our plans to meet at the beginning of February have been set aside (briefly) by the Pats; we're rescheduling our first big meeting for sometime in March (on a Monday, for God's sake)--and for that meeting, come ready to play!

We are presently discussing mission/value statements, working on organization, and asking for help with logo design and web presence. It's wordy, loud, fun, and, well, slow--given our day jobs.

And so, SALT proceeds organically to what it will be. Much like a play, as it approaches opening night: two nights before opening, the set falls down (or doesn't show up); in final dress--lines are lost, costumes rip; in previews, the director makes internal cuts for the final scene...and somehow, seemingly by magic, the show comes together. And so will SALT.

Please note that the new address for this blog is: saltstudio.blogspot.com Pass it on.

So enjoy Superbowl Sunday--do what Victor says he's gonna do: find a TV and watch it! Don't worry about SALT; we'll be calling you out in March...

Psssst. Pass the salsa...

Point to Point

Abraham Lincoln, in a letter explaining his approach to Civil War Reconstruction, outlined this policy:

"The pilots on our Western rivers steer from point to point as they call it--setting the course of the boat no farther than they can see; and that is all I propose to myself in this great problem."

I am trying to view the creation and continuing evolution of S.A.L.T. using that analogy..I don't want to waste precious energy on navigating the entire course; it would create needless worry and anxiety--I want to spend my time problem-solving the next bend or point in the river. I want to feel stronger and more capable to handle greater obstacles that may arise. I want to direct this great idea through the wild course of life! So I need to go slowly and with determination...from point to point.

[So bear with me if posts don't come fast enough; I assure you, I am working hard on meeting and talking with people, listening to their responses to my ideas, and thanking them for their interest and inquiry. Thank you, guys. Your help IS very much needed. I want very much for the creation of this home for a community of theater artists--to work in, to learn in, to play in--to be a viable, exciting place.]

Hope Artiste Village

It's Hope Artiste Village
...although I always head for the easier phoneme and just say 'artist's village'
[and in Rhode Island:
'Ah-tistz'...
of course.

A couple of new pictures showed up on craigslist for this beautiful renovated mill space...

They are just a tad more easy to see than the ones I took...

The new date for our first 'official' meeting is now the first weekend in February...
allowing those folks who belong to Richard III to be officially exhausted by opening weekend. All hail Project Discovery!

Any and all of you out there who would like to lend your voice to this blog...send your email address to me (in a comment) and I'll do my best to add you as an author.

[Some interesting field trip ideas: The Manton Avenue Project and Shakespeare & Co.; both playing soon...]

Pictures taken in Zero Light...

The quality is not the best, but you can kind of get an idea:

1500 square feet, 30' X 50'. The sides will have shelves (obviously), but the center can be cleared for rehearsal/small performances. If we need more space, there is a 'theater' space at this mill for just that purpose. We also might be able to lease other space (just for S.A.L.T.) in a year or two depending on the rate of our growth.

Here's another one...wider scope, but darker.

Dream away.

Comments please...

Tonight--Rick and I will visit the space and take pictures...stay tuned...it is a beautiful space--just the right kind of a place to rehearse and meet and drink coffee and laugh...and produce some good theater.

Everyone loves a bookstore. (Except Pawtucket City Hall--but that's another story...)

I would like to plan a meeting for S.A.L.T. for the last weekend in January: the 25th, 26th, or 27th. For those of you who can make it, please send a comment with your availability, Friday night, Saturday night, or Sunday anytime.

It will be a time to listen and speak up about what you like best about live theater, and why you can't NOT do it. I look forward to seeing you there--specific details to follow. Don't worry, I'll find you.
